Tracey Hannah and the World Cup Series

I just spotted the post, Tracey Nicole Hannah Explains Her Decision on Pinkbike.com. The post is a press release from Tracey about why she isn't pursuing the World Cups this season. It's a bummer that no one's stepping up to help her out financially. She's definitely one of the world's best riders and obviously she has a lot of potential. We'll miss her on the podium, but we know that when she's back, she'll be faster than ever!

World Championships Test Race Results

The World Championships organizers held a test event at Commezzadura, Val di Sole, Italy this weekend to prepare for the real thing next month. Several of the world's top women competed in the downhill and mountaincross events. Worlds is happening almost 3 months earlier than normal this year because of the Olympics. We need to remember that this is only a "test", but Sabrina Jonnier took second to Floriane Pugin in downhill. Anneke Beerten took the win in mountaincross.

Spring Thaw Results

Ashland, Oregon's Spring Thaw downhill race is one of those gems you find just off the beaten path. I'd never heard of the Spring Thaw until a few months ago and I was worried about the fact that all of our pro cross country friends were excited about racing the downhill.

The course is fast enough in sections to warrant a big bike, but it's so pedally in other places that a small bike makes sense too. I rode my Glory, and Sara Johnson and Katie Holden showed up on their big rigs. Bend local Anka Martin, who just finished crushing the competition at the Cape Epic, brought her trail bike and schooled us all.

The race is definitely one to put on your list. It's 100% singletrack in the woods with tight turns, fun pumpy sections, and a high speed freeway section. The Southern Oregon Mountain Bike Association gives everyone a free lunch with their entries, and there's a happy community feel in the pits. Oh, and Ashland itself is pretty sweet--if you're a fan of bikes, snow, and Shakespeare (which I am).

Chalk Creek Stampede Results

The first Mountain States Cup gravity races took place in Nathrop, CO this weekend. The racing was limited to the gated variety and counts for MSC series points as well as the USA Cycling National Gravity Calendar series points. Joanna Petterson won both the Pro/Expert women's Mountaincross and Dual Slalom races. She battled Lisa Myklak, who's just returning from an injury she suffered at the Holla for Ya Dolla Jam, for the win in slalom. Joanna took on mountaincross specialists Bobbi Watt and Neven Steinmetz in for the win in mountaincross. The Chalk Creek Stampede is the second race on National Gravity Calendar, and the next gravity races for both series will take place over Memorial Day at the Angel Fire Chile Challenge.

NMBS Finals Relocate to Brian Head, UT

The NMBS Finals, which were supposed to be held at Tamarack, ID have been relocated to Brian Head, UT. The Finals will keep their original date of August 30 through September 1, 2008. The gravity events at Brian Head will be downhill, Super D, and dual slalom. For more information, visit Blue Wolf Events.

Fluidride Race Clinic and Schedule Update

Fluidride is hosting a downhill race clinic in Port Angeles, WA on May 3 and 4, 2008. This clinic is open to anyone who races or wants to race, and it's a great way to improve your skills and confidence. The clinics promise to give riders plenty of time on the course with immediate feedback from instructors. Bring a friend!

Help the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship Finish a Sweet Trail

The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is working hard to finish the North Yuba Extension trail, which starts in Downieville, CA, before the middle of May. This trail is the only non-motorized trail in the Downieville area of the Sierra. It's also currently the only singletrack that you can hop on straight from town--and it accesses an infinite amount of riding from there. The North Yuba Extension climbs from town and then offers a world-class descent into Goodyears Bar.
Helping with the trail work is rewarding. The SBTS will cover your housing and food when you work on the trail, and you get the satisfaction of knowing that your work will help lots of people have lots of fun on a new and epic trail. Pinkbike.com's Marin Co. Sea Otter Warm-up

On their way from Chilliwack, BC to Monterey, CA, Pinkbike.com stopped by the WTB headquarters in Marin County, CA. Dain and I took the crew up to Mt. Tam for some real Marin riding. Two of Pinkbike's downhill team members, Fiona Taylor and Danice Uyesugi were stoked to ride some dry California trails. These girls are rippers!
